Downtown Charleston

Getting ready to take a horse and carriage tour of Charleston.

Every tour carriage must stop at this shed where
city employees head count the number of people
on board so that the city gets their "cut".

These baskets are available at the city market. The larger ones sell for $450. We took
20 to bring home to our friends.

This is Front Street where all the restaurants are. Literally 2
blocks from our marina which was in the center of town.

Cobblestone streets. I can't tell you what a beautiful city
     this is.

Street after street of 200+ year old homes.

Notice the grey door, built for carriage entrance.

    What can I say!

No building in Charleston can be taller than the
     highest church steeple.

The Noisy Crab, all open air restaurant.

Charleston, S.C.- Fort Sumter

This is my idea of boating. No property taxes, no utilities, no ties to anywhere!

Entering Charleston Harbor via the Ashley River.

Charleston, S.C. If you have never been to Charleston you don't know what your
missing. With out a doubt one of the highlights of our trip. Marvelous city with an
abundance of history. We spent 4 days here so we will start with our visit to Ft. Sumter.

This is where it started. April 12, 1861

    Approaching by water.

Ft. Sumter was literally decimated by the Confederate Army and later rebuilt by the
government and managed by the National Parks Service.

    400 lbs. of lead.

Getting ready to fire the cannons.

Old Glory! Amazing experience visiting this landmark. Interesting note, Abner Doubleday
served here as a Union Captain. When I questioned one of the park rangers why there
was no mention of Doubleday and baseball she commented that's because he did not
    invent baseball.

Dataw Island

I

Beautiful Island!  Took a bike ride around the golf course and were able to visit
B.B. Sam and the Fripp families' plantation ruins.  Nice relaxing and fun day.

    The Ruins.
