Hilton Head here we come!

'

Say "good bye" to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the USA.

Oops? How did Charlie's picture get in here?
Rushing the "summer s'mores" with Dad.

Next stop was Amelia Island just North of Jacksonville.  When we arrived at the entrance
To the Marina we were at low tide and boy it looked it.  The entrance was maybe 200 yards
long and 20 feet wide at low tide, our boat is just a little over 14 feet wide.  We called the
Harbor Master and he assured us we had at least 4 feet of water.  We draft 3 1/2 ft.  Our
Depth finder showed a little less than 4 ft. So we continued and dug up mud the whole way
In.  we had gotten in too far to go back out.  In the morning, the water was 9 feet deep.  We
      Learned a lot about tides.

Had a nice dinner under a tiki hut about one hundred feet from the boat.

Kings Bay Navy Submarine Base, Georgia.  See the two ships in the distance?
There is a hidden submarine between them.  The Intra Coastal travels right by this base.
The maps warn you of this is a security zone.  To the right in the picture is a tiny Navy tender.
That came out immediately to meet us and watched as we passed by.  Should we had
Continued in their direction, I am sure they would have more to say about our proximity
To the subs. Interesting enough this was the deepest water we encountered in the east coast.

Hidden Harbor, Georgia.  Great little clubhouse at the Marina inside,
a planned upscale community that never materialized.  The dock master
Spent some time with me explaining the tides in their area.  Then came the
No-see-ums so bad we had to stay in the boat for the rest of the night.
     They swarmed us.

We knew there was some dangerous water areas the next day, but we were prepared.
What we didn't expect was 30 mph winds. We had to cross a couple of sounds
That ran parallel to the ocean with 4 ft. Waves, some crashing over the bow .  The
Biggest hurdles would be Mud Creek and Hell' s gate which at low tide were not passible.
We hit mud creek right on schedule and got through no problems.  We had planned
To stop before Hell's Gate and hit there the following day. We were ahead of schedule
So we decided to press on.  We reached Hell's gate behind another boat who decided to try
It.....1 ft water.  We went back 10 miles and spent the night and wait for high tide.

Ah! Land and no-see-ems.  We checked tides and decided to leave in the morning at 9
In order To hit Hell's gate at high tide. When we got there it was 14 feet of water.  That is a
13 foot swing.  You better know your tides.

      Shrimp boats outside Savannah, Georgia.

We now know what they mean by "Georgian low lands".  This is the most we saw for two days
By water in Georgia.  It was mostly swamp but if you should buy property take a look at
The dock you have to build in order to get out to 3-4 feet of water.

We picked out our next home and you all will be invited to stay with your own  room, bath.
     Porch.

Just a spectacular oak!  I just love them.

Checking out the beach with some great friends, Mike and Rosemary.

     Coligny Circle, Hilton Head

   Rosemary, Rick and me!

The famous Sea Pines light house.

This is the Stars and Stripes sail boat  which won the "world cup"  Rick and I had a chance
To sail the Stars and Stripes in St. Martin.  I happen to be wearing the hat and shirt from
That trip in the above picture of us at Amelia Island.  Everyone that participated was
Assigned a task to perform during the race.  We were faster and better than our opponents,
     And we won the race.

Harbortown Marina, just a really neat place.  In the background you will see the tents
Going up for the Heritage Golf Classic.
